Bear
Bear
5 yr old male bullmastiff mix, owner surrender by a truck driver whose job started
taking him on the road for days at a time.
Bear has a good temperament, his tail wagging all the time, even while drinking. He
is not at all demanding but he is a serious dog who needs to be close to his human. He
wants very much to please and will need lots of reassurance in his new home.
Bear likes to take a drink often , but his bitty bladder will require frequent trips
outside if you indulge him. He is quiet if alone in his crate, but only after he has been
with you long enough to know that he is in his permanent home; otherwise, he will be
troubled by the separation from his human.
Although Bear has no formal obedience training, he knows ‘sit’, ‘down’, and ‘back up’.
He won’t pull on the leash after he gets used to you but still needs some leash work to
keep him on track with where you want to go. He offers good eye contact as he is always
seeking to understand what one is asking of him. Formal training would bring out his great
potential & solidify the bond with his human.
Bear barks softyly when he is excited. He is not bad about barking but may bark at
another dog in the next yard or a neighbor on a riding mower – the noise excites him. Bear
is small-dog aggressive so he is not a good candidate for someone who likes to get out and
walk in the neighborhood. He strongly needs a group obedience class where he will be
around other dogs with trainers who can observe and guide his human in the direction he
needs. He gets along with his co-foster female bullmastiff - and most males who don’t get
in his face.
He loves to ride in the car and behaves when left for his human to run a quick
errand. However, he does bark excitedly as he watches his human walk away. True to his
layed back nature, Bear patiently allows his human to clean his ears & clip his nails.
Bear does not jump up on people, but that habit may re-surface under the stress of
a new home. He is a good-natured boy who tries very hard to please his human, so he
learns quickly
Bear is neutered, up to date on all vaccines, HW- and microchipped.
