Meet Katie: If you are looking for unconditional love, look no further!
A Little About Katie:
Katie is an adorable petite 5-year old female Bullmastiff with so much love to give. After a tough life in a puppy mill where she was used for breeding, they simply discarded her. Katie likes to be close to her people where she will follow you around from room to room and settle by your feet.
Katie is a petite lady weighing in at 82 lbs. She is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm negative and microchipped. She is house trained and is learning how to walk on leash. Leash training is going well.
Personality and Preferences:
Katie will show you love as soon as you show her love. We haven’t met a person she didn’t like. She charms everyone she meets including those who typically don’t care for big dogs. Katie enjoys car rides and going on errands especially to places who give her a treat or two.
She is happiest when she is the only dog in the home. Katie hasn’t been exposed to cats. She has met multiple children and enjoyed being petted by them. Due to her size, a home with older children should be best to avoid accidental knock-overs.
Ideal Home:
Katie’s ideal home is where she is treated like family. Has a fenced in yard, and someone who likes to go for walks. She enjoys a car ride or anything that keeps her close to her people. She’d thrive in a home where someone is around most of the day, as she loves to be close to her people, but she also can adapt to your schedule. If you are looking for a loyal, loving companion who is ready to give you lots of love, Katie could be the perfect match. Katie will do best in a home where she is the only pet.
Katie seems to be very smart. She knows her name, and a few obedience commands, Sit, Down, Come. She is food motivated and eager to please so she should be easy to train.
She has proven herself to be a counter-surfer but is learning that is not an acceptable behavior and continued reinforcement is needed. Her adopted family will need to continue to teach and reinforce basic commands.
A special note about puppy mill survivors: Puppy mill survivors often come with “baggage” that needs to be unpacked which takes time. This baggage is typically fear – fear of loud noises, quick movements, vehicles, stairs, even a fear of leashes, etc., The fears can be deep seated and may not ever be completely overcome. Adopters of puppy mill survivors need to be gentle and patient.
If your family would like to provide Katie with the home she deserves, click on the “Adopt Me” button above and complete the adoption application. You can complete an online version or download the application in Word.
BRI requires a donation ranging from $100 to $600 for each adoption. The donation is based on the age and health of the dog being adopted as well as its level of training. 100% of donations are directed to the veterinary expenses of the dogs in our care.
Katie is being fostered in Virginia (South Western near Roanoke), however don’t let location be a barrier, BRI can arrange transport to many states east of the Mississippi.
